Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to set up a protocol that makes the removal of the stain possible and that it is suitable for different histochemical and immunohistochemical stains in a hematoxylin and eosin stained slide.
Materials and methods: Hematoxylin and eosin staining was removed with the developed protocol, followed by anti-iNOS staining, in this technical study done by using rat liver and kidney slides.
Results: We detected no residual of histological stains on the hematoxylin and eosin stained slides when the developed protocol was applied. The basic structures of rat liver and kidney tissues were displayed in the slides stained with hematoxylin and eosin without any exposure to degradation caused by the protocol process.
Conclusion: In this study, we showed that it was possible to economically and effectively restain the unstained slides with the developed protocol, both histochemically and immunohistochemically, and to effectively re-evaluate the slides in the archives of histology laboratories.
