Abstract

Objectives: Getting correct and reliable results out of the dose calibrators is only provided by periodical quality control tests. To provide the optimization of diagnosis and treatment applications and it is essential to perform test procedures correctly since radiation safety of patient is highly dependent upon the reliability of dose calibrator.

Patients and methods: In our study, the quality control tests using Biodex Atom Lab 500 dose calibrator in the Nuclear Medicine Department of Istanbul Medical Faculty were given. Test results was evaluated by using the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRC) eligibility criteria.

Results: According to the NRC, results of the quality control tests must remain in ±%5 margin of error. In this study, performed quality control tests of dose calibrator according to NRC standards yielded acceptable results.

Conclusion: Dose calibrators are a must for the measurement of radioactive material to be given to the patient in nuclear medicine departments. Therefore, quality control of this devices is extremely important in terms of giving minimum radiation to the patient.
