Relationship between attachment models, personality types and obsessive compulsive personality formation

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to examine the relationship between attachment models, personality features, and obsessive compulsive personality formation.

Materials and methods: The study included 131 individuals (29 males, 102 females; mean age 45 years; range, 20 to 61 years) from employees of Demiroğlu Bilim University Florence Nightingale Medical Faculty Hospital and students of Demiroğlu Bilim University. Sociodemographic Data Form, Inventory of Experiences in Close Relationships-2, Five Factor Personality Inventory, and Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale were used for data collection.

Results: In the Personality Inventory, those with avoidant attachment had higher scores in compatibility subdimension, while those with anxious attachment had higher scores in emotional stability subdimension. Both attachment models had a statistically significant relationship with obsessive compulsive personality formation.

Conclusion: It may be suggested that there is a significant relationship between attachment models and personality features and obsessive compulsive personality formation.
